Samsung’s next generation of smartphones has landed. And with the newest ‘A’ series, it is clear that the company is trying to push it towards the younger crowd. The promo video for it, Christ! It is an annoyingly catchy 48-second clip of a distorted voice that goes “awesome screen, awesome camera, long-lasting battery life“. Here, check it out for yourself. The video also shines the light on what Samsung wants to focus on its smartphones. With the prioritizations set, the South Korean conglomerate announced the Galaxy A71 alongside the smaller Galaxy A51.

Galaxy A71 Overview

Design & Display

It looks like the Galaxy A71 alongside other new-gen ‘A’ series marks the new design trend of Samsung smartphones, at least for 2020. There’s a notch-less approach to the front camera, while the back includes an ‘L’-shaped camera arrangement. More on that later. It has a similar glass back with diamond-cut patterns that reflect differently based on how you look at it. The slim form-factor that the A71 endorses in its tall build should be appealing to many.
And all these lenses are arranged in an ‘L’-shaped arrangement inside a rectangular modular. We’ve also seen several renders of the upcoming Galaxy S11 with a similar camera module, so it’ll be interesting to see exactly how Samsung manages to differentiate its ‘S’ series with the ‘A’ series. Coming to the front, there’s the same 32MP selfie camera as its predecessors.

Performance & Memory

While the earlier generation of the Galaxy A70 series packed the same Snapdragon 675 chipset, Samsung has gone with a far better Snapdragon 730 on the Galaxy A71. This is a pretty big deal since we have been repeatedly complaining about how Samsung’s newer-generation of mid-range devices don’t come with a chipset-upgrade. But is it too late now? The 730 has already been replaced by Snapdragon 765 / 765G. The latest Redmi K30 comes with these chipsets from Qualcomm at a ridiculously low price. So, trouble’s not over yet for Samsung.
You get either 6 or 8GB of RAM on the Galaxy A71 which I think is sufficient. Storage-wise, the phone comes with 128GB internally, which can be expanded using a micro SD card.

Battery

Despite the slim design and build, the Galaxy A71 still packs the same 4500 mAh battery like in its predecessors. Kudos, Samsung! Despite the sizeable battery, it could run out quickly upon prolonged continuous usage since the phone has a tall FHD+ display. However, Samsung ensures that the phone’s battery life will not be disappointing. Also, you get 25W quick charging which should fill up the phone’s juice much faster.

Samsung Galaxy A71 Pricing & Availability

Though Samsung Vietnam has announced the Galaxy A71, the pricing remains a mystery for now. The phone is also scheduled to launch in Nepal around January so stay with us on further developments.
